WORLD FISH MIGRATION DAY VOLUNTEER TREE PLANTING EVENT

Are you interested in giving back to the environment? Join Ontario Streams at John Button Park in Markham on Saturday, May 25th to plant native trees and shrubs! The event will run from 10 am - 1 pm and you can come at any time and stay for as long as you would like. Shovels and gardening gloves will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own as well.

We will have a water refill station so please bring your own water bottle. We will be planting rain or shine, so please dress for the weather and wear closed toed shoes. Some light snacks will be provided as well.

Thank you for your support and passion for protecting the Earth! We are looking forward to making a difference together!

Many fish migrate through the Greater Toronto Area, including the locally extinct Atlantic Salmon that Ontario Streams is trying to bring back to Lake Ontario. The native trees and shrubs we plant will help support the local aquatic habitats by:

  • Roots will filter/clean water as it moves underground off of urban landscape
  • Roots will hold soil in place to combat erosion
  • Plants can create shade to keep water cool
  • Plants will provide habitat and food sources for local wildlife (i.e. endangered redside dace needs overhanging vegetation to attract its main food source, terrestrial insects)

More details will be emailed to you closer to the event.
