Rate of Pay: $27.00 - $30.00/hour

Employment Type: Full-time Contract

Duration of Contract: August 1, 2025 - July 31, 2026, possible rollover into permanent position pending performance after successful completion of the contract

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week

Work Location: Based out of Aurora, Ontario with a hybrid work schedule, however role will require >20% time working outdoors leading field work from April - October


Ontario Streams is looking for an
energetic, enthusiastic, and reliable individual to contribute to our mission of restoring and protecting aquatic habitats with support from community volunteers within the Greater Toronto Area. We lead restoration projects in a variety of habitats including rivers and wetlands to improve ecosystems for sensitive species such as Redside Dace, Atlantic Salmon, Brook Trout, and Jefferson Salamanders.

Summary of Position

The Development and Communications Coordinator will lead Ontario Streams fundraising and communication activities. This role will be responsible for writing funding applications, managing project data, and creating final reports for our various funders. Working alongside the Assistant Manager, the Coordinator will support Ontario Streams’ strategic plan by liaising with community partners and corporate sponsors to maintain and grow our projects and scope. During the field season, this role will have the opportunity to work outdoors and supervise seasonal Habitat Technicians. 


Summary of Major Tasks:

  • Research, develop, and and write funding applications for environmental rehabilitation projects and educational programs for government, foundation, and corporate funding programs, including creating budget, work plans, and other deliverables
  • Design strategies for increasing individual donors, corporate sponsorships, and other avenues for revenue generation
  • Collaborate with full-time team in the development of habitat rehabilitation project proposals
  • Engage donors and stakeholders through the creation of promotional materials and resources
  • Maintain detailed records, manage accurate project data, and write interim and final reports for funders
  • Develop and maintain program-related webpage(s), monthly newsletters, blog posts, and social media content 
  • Plan and facilitate Annual General Meeting and other recognition events
  • Assist in the supervision of seasonal Habitat Technicians, and support volunteer stewardship programs and outreach events
  • Follow Ontario Streams’ health and safety practices, and 
  • Other duties as assigned 

 

Eligibility Requirements 

  • The completion of a post-secondary program focusing on communications, marketing, fundraising or related field
  • Experience writing funding applications and reports
  • Experience managing large quantities of data
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent project management including time management, budgeting, developing work plans 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of environmental issues 
  • Excellent organization and computer skills (Microsoft Office, Google Workplace, web design, and online media tools) 
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision 
  • Physical work is required in this position. A successful applicant must be physically fit and able to complete field work 
  • Ability to work outdoors in adverse environmental conditions over extended periods of time 
  • A Valid G Class Drivers License is required 

Additional qualifications that would be considered an asset: 

  • Experience operating trucks and towing small trailers 
  • Experience with photography and/or videography 
  • Standard first aid and CPR certification 


Terms of Employment 

  • August 1, 2025 - July 31, 2026, possible rollover into permanent position pending performance after successful completion of the contract
  • Salary: $27.00-$30.00/hour, 40 hr/week 
  • Five paid sick days and ten paid vacation days

Candidates will be expected to work occasional weekends and evenings. Ontario Streams will provide all safety and field equipment as required, but employees must provide and wear their own pair of CSA approved footwear.
